Friday the 13th April 2018

April 13, 2018

Western superstition means that Friday the 13th is considered an unlucky day. Today, Friday 13th April 2018 it is that time again. It was during the Middle Ages that superstition of this day may have started. The superstition comes from the story of Jesus’ last supper and crucifixion. Thirteen people were in the Upper Room on the 13th of Nisan Maundy Thursday before the night he died on Good Friday. However while the day Friday and the number 13 are considered unlucky, it has only been since the 19th century that Friday the 13th has been considered an unlucky day.

Americans are most in fear of Friday 13th and it is their most feared day in history. Part of this could be due to its portrayal in popular media such as the character Jason Voorhies from the Friday the 13th movie series!
